Showcasing First Nations Innovation in Japan at World Expo 2025

Our founder, Corey, recently joined eleven other First Nations-owned businesses on a landmark Austrade trade mission to Japan, proudly representing Australia in Tokyo and at the 2025 Osaka World Expo.

This mission highlighted the strength, creativity, and global ambition of First Nations businesses, while opening doors to new partnerships with Japanese importers, retailers, and investors. Led by Australia’s Ambassador for First Nations People, Justin Mohamed, and Austrade’s Head of Indigenous Engagement and Export, Melanie Harris, the week-long program combined cultural diplomacy with real-world export insights.

Connecting First Nations excellence with Japan’s premium market

Japan remains one of Australia’s most trusted trading partners, with two-way trade exceeding $100 billion in 2023–24. For Native Botanical Brewery, this market represents enormous potential to share our premium First Nations products and stories with Japanese buyers who value authenticity, quality, and innovation.

The delegation included businesses from agrifood, consumer goods, and premium lifestyle sectors. Together, we showcased not just products, but the living traditions, cultural knowledge, and future-focused innovation of the world’s oldest continuous cultures.

Cultural diplomacy meets commercial opportunity

Highlights of the trade mission included:

  • Embassy events in Tokyo connecting First Nations businesses with Japanese distributors and investors.

  • Networking at the Osaka World Expo, strengthening global Indigenous business ties during Te Aratini Indigenous Peoples Week.

  • Product showcases that put First Nations creativity, quality, and storytelling in the global spotlight.

  • Strategic discussions on export pathways into Northeast Asia, ensuring First Nations businesses are ready to scale internationally.

As Corey reflects, this journey was about more than trade. It was about cultural leadership, building enduring partnerships, and demonstrating that First Nations enterprises are world-class and investment-ready.
